Out of the Box was started in March 2006 and is written by Ross Rubin. Ross is director of industry analysis for consumer technology at The NPD Group. However, any opinions expressed in Out of the Box are his own and do not necessarily reflect those of The NPD Group, which has no affiliation with this Web site.
Ross is also a columnist for abcnews.com and senior columnist for Engadget, where he has written the weekly Switched On column since October 2004.
Prior to NPD, Ross founded and developed the consumer access and technology service at Jupiter Research, where he served as vice president and chief research fellow. Prior to joining Jupiter, he held advanced technology positions at McKinsey & Company and Salomon Brothers.
Ross has appeared on ABC, The Today Show, CNN, CNBC and Fox News and is frequently quoted by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Associated Press and other leading publications. He has contributed to 13 books and written over 250 articles on computing and communications technologies, and has served as a contributing editor to Laptop Magazine and founding editor of Ziff Davis’s Wireless Supersite (now part of eWEEK.com).
