Out of the Box was started in March 2006 and is written by Ross Rubin, principal analyst at Reticle Research, an advisory firm focusing on consumer technologies. He is also a senior columnist for Engadget, where he has written the Switched On column since October 2004, and a columnist for Tecca, where he writes Rubin’s Roundup.
Prior to founding Reticle, Ross was executive director and principal analyst at The NPD Group, where he provided analysis on a wide range of consumer technology topics to clients and helped to launch several major research products. Prior to NPD, Ross founded and developed the consumer access and technology service at Jupiter Research, where he served as vice president and chief research fellow. He has also written regularly occurring columns for abcnews.com, CNET, Laptop, and Ziff-Davis, where he founded the Wireless Supersite, later incorporated into eWeek.com.
Ross has appeared on ABC, The Today Show, CNN, CNBC and Fox News and is frequently quoted by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Associated Press and other leading publications. He has contributed to 13 books and written over 250 articles on computing and communications technologies.
